To no surprise, the Scottish Terrier was developed in
Scotland, originally used for hunting den animals (badgers, rabbits, etc.). Today,
their friendly and playful personality makes for an excellent companion pet. Muscular and robust, Scotties are confident
and brave. They have not forgotten their heritage. Because of this confidence,
Scotties can become suborn and bossy. To prevent this, leadership needs to be
placed over the dog.
Scotties are okay with children, but we recommend older children
who are able to place dominance over the animal in a kind and appropriate manner.
Scotties have little to no shedding (hypoallergenic). Regular
brushing is required. Bath only when needed. Approximately every 6 months the
coat should be trimmed.
Exercise for a Scottie should consist of daily short walks
or a play around the yard. They do fine with apartment living. They also make
good watch dogs.
Scotties grow to be around 20 pounds full grown. They live
for approximately 12 to 15 years.
