The Siberian Husky was originally bred as a working dog used for Dog-Sledding. They are hard-working, intelligent and independent. Huskies are not known to be agressive and are very affectionate dogs making them good for families with children. They are pack-dogs meaning they will also do well in multi-dog homes. Although the Husky is a very intelligent dog, this trait can also make them deiifcult to train. These dogs are better for confident, experienced dog owners who are willing to set rules and deliver consistantly. Huskies require obedience training and even then their stubborn side can show, being able to distiguish between class and home.
With the Husky being a natural born working dog, they have a lot of energy. They require a lot of outdoor exercise and a fenced in yard. They are known to be escape artists. It is very important that the dog will not be able to dig underneath or jump over the fence and escape. Huskys make great running partners as long as you keep them on a leash. Unleashed dogs will chase after anything and everything and with their speed, you may not be able to catch up. If the dog is not properly exercised (30-60 minutes daily) they may become destructive both indoors and out.
The Husky comes in a variety of colors from black to pure white with colored marking along the body ranging from blacks, grays, coppers and reds. They have a double-coat meaning they shed, a lot. These dogs "blow their coat" twice a year. This will be the time when the dogs sheds the most, usually in Spring and Fall. Huskies require weekly brushing on a regular basis but, during the shedding a daily brushing will help limit the fur around the house.
Siberan Huskies have an average life span of 12 to 15 years. They stand 20-33 inches tall and are 35-60lbs as an adult.
